€9,000 SEAI Solar Grant for DSP Recipients
A New Grant for Eligible Households
From 6 October 2026, the Irish government introduced a significantly enhanced solar PV grant for homeowners in receipt of certain Department of Social Protection (DSP) payments. The grant can cover up to €9,000 towards the cost of solar panels and battery storage.
This is not a general grant for all welfare recipients. It is a targeted scheme for specific payment categories, designed to help those most at risk of energy poverty access the benefits of solar energy.
If you or someone in your household receives one of the qualifying payments, this guide explains everything you need to know.

What Is the €9,000 SEAI Solar Grant?
The grant is the maximum support available under the enhanced SEAI scheme for eligible homeowners. It is made up of two parts:
| Grant Component | Amount |
|---|---|
| Solar PV panels (up to 4kWp) | €8,400 |
| Battery storage (5kWh or larger) | €600 |
| Maximum combined support | €9,000 |
Important: This is not an automatic cash payment. It is a grant towards the cost of approved work, subject to eligibility and approval. The grant is paid directly to your registered installer, not to you.
This is a significant increase from the standard SEAI solar PV grant, which is capped at €1,800.
Who Qualifies for the Enhanced Grant?
You must be in receipt of at least one of the following DSP payments:
| Qualifying Payment | Conditions |
|---|---|
| Fuel Allowance | Under the National Fuel Scheme |
| Jobseeker’s Allowance | Received for more than 6 months AND have a child under 7 in the household |
| Working Family Payment | Any amount |
| One-Parent Family Payment | Any amount |
| Domiciliary Care Allowance | Any amount |
| Carer’s Allowance | You must live with the person you care for |
| Disability Allowance | Received for more than 6 months AND have a child under 7 in the household |
Payment status alone does not guarantee approval. You must also meet property and technical criteria.
Property Requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| MPRN | The property must have a valid MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) |
| Build date | The home must have been built and occupied before 2025 |
| Previous grants | If the property has already received SEAI PV funding, you cannot apply again for PV |
| Battery grant | Separate criteria apply (minimum 5kWh, no prior battery funding) |
| Installation | Must use an SEAI-registered contractor |
What Can You Get? (Example)
Here is how the €9,000 grant could work in practice.
Hypothetical Example:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Installation quote (4kWp PV + 5kWh battery) | €12,000 |
| Enhanced PV grant (up to 4kWp) | -€8,400 |
| Battery grant (5kWh+) | -€600 |
| Amount remaining for homeowner | €3,000 |
This is a hypothetical example, not a market average. Actual quotes and grants depend on your specific property and eligibility.
How Does This Compare to the Standard Grant?
The Enhanced DSP Solar Grant offers up to €9,000 for eligible welfare recipients—five times the standard €1,800 grant available to all homeowners. How Moontree Solar Helps you
