€9,000 SEAI Solar Grant for DSP Recipients

A New Grant for Eligible Households

From 6 October 2026, the Irish government introduced a significantly enhanced solar PV grant for homeowners in receipt of certain Department of Social Protection (DSP) payments. The grant can cover up to €9,000 towards the cost of solar panels and battery storage.

This is not a general grant for all welfare recipients. It is a targeted scheme for specific payment categories, designed to help those most at risk of energy poverty access the benefits of solar energy.

If you or someone in your household receives one of the qualifying payments, this guide explains everything you need to know.

What Is the €9,000 SEAI Solar Grant?

The grant is the maximum support available under the enhanced SEAI scheme for eligible homeowners. It is made up of two parts:

Grant ComponentAmount
Solar PV panels (up to 4kWp)€8,400
Battery storage (5kWh or larger)€600
Maximum combined support€9,000

Important: This is not an automatic cash payment. It is a grant towards the cost of approved work, subject to eligibility and approval. The grant is paid directly to your registered installer, not to you.

This is a significant increase from the standard SEAI solar PV grant, which is capped at €1,800.

Who Qualifies for the Enhanced Grant?

You must be in receipt of at least one of the following DSP payments:

What Can You Get? (Example)

Here is how the €9,000 grant could work in practice.

Hypothetical Example:

Item Cost
Installation quote (4kWp PV + 5kWh battery) €12,000
Enhanced PV grant (up to 4kWp) -€8,400
Battery grant (5kWh+) -€600
Amount remaining for homeowner €3,000

This is a hypothetical example, not a market average. Actual quotes and grants depend on your specific property and eligibility.

How Does This Compare to the Standard Grant?

The Enhanced DSP Solar Grant offers up to €9,000 for eligible welfare recipients—five times the standard €1,800 grant available to all homeowners.
