Introduction A Solar PV system is a multi-stage process that involves precision, planning, and technical expertise. At Moontree Solar, we ensure every step is completed to the highest standard—from the initial consultation to final commissioning. Here’s a step-by-step look at what to expect when you go solar with us.
Here are the steps !
Initial Consultation & Proposal
We begin by discussing your needs and assessing your property either remotely or in person. Using details such as roof type, size, location, and energy usage, we design a preliminary system and provide an estimate. Some sites can be accurately assessed using online tools, others require a site call out.
Deliverables:
- Proposed system size and panel layout
- Equipment list
- Estimated generation and ROI
- Provide a proposal with system design and pricing
- Check that Smart Meter is installed (Needed to Export Energy to Grid)
Site Survey
Once the proposal is accepted, we call to conduct an accurate detailed site survey to confirm dimensions, shading issues, cable routes, and mounting conditions and other factors to finalise system design.
Deliverables:
- Finalise panel layout
- Finalise Inverter, Battery, Gateway, Fire-Shunt locations
- Establish possible shading areas
- Timeline for installation
SEAI Grant Application (if applicable)
If you qualify for an SEAI grant (Domestic or NDMG), we help you gather the necessary information to submit your application.
- The grant must be approved before installation begins.
- Domestic Grants can be approved within minutes.
- Commercial Grant approval can be approved within an hour.
- Timeline: Usually same day
ESB Networks NC6 Submission
We submit the required NC6 application to ESB Networks to notify them of the planned grid-connected system. This ensures your solar PV system is registered and grid-compliant.
- NC6 Grant is submitted.
- No response after 4 weeks is term of approval. You will be notified if declined.
Timeline: Usually 4 weeks
Hardware Installation
Now the physical work begins:
- Roof hooks and DC rails fitted
- DC Cabling, Earth bonding & Fire shunt
- Panels installed and cabled into strings & tested
- AC Cabling & Networking cables run, trunking fitted, DC Cables routed to inverter
- DC & AC Isolators fitted and wired.
Duration: 2–5 days depending on system size and complexity
Inverter, Batteries & AC Board Installation
Install Inverter, Batteries, Gateway, AC Box (Depending on system)
- Install inverter & Batterys – make out connections AC, DC, Network & Comms.
- Install Gateway, AC Box, Surge protection, Solar meter & RCBO’s
- Configure Network connection and monitoring
Locations: Utility room, Garage, Attic or Externally (Usually)
Commissioning & Testing
Your system is powered on and setup onto Portal.
We program system settings, test safety isolators, check performance and ensure live data is reporting to your mobile app or web portal.
Includes:
- Final safety checks
- Solar PV Performance testing
- App setup on Smart Phones and documentation completion
- Functional system handover, Operation training & Handover
Smart Meter & Export Tariff Setup
We advise you to contact a reputable energy broker and negotiate a good energy rate for your system to maximise your savings. A good night rate to charge batterys for use the following morning is ideal.
- Smart Meter is required for Exporting to the Grid.
- Day/Night rates are a common method to enhance savings.
- Dynamic rates are another smart method that enable smart systems like Sigenergy to
Sell to the grid at high rate.
Buy from the grid at a low rate.
Automatically – these should become available in August.
Goal: Maximise self-consumption use & buy at low rate. Export once batterys are full.
Conclusion
Every installation by Moontree Solar follows this meticulous process to ensure system safety, efficiency, and long-term performance. From consultation to final handover, we work closely with you at every step.
