SEAI Solar PV Grant for Homeowners

Key Details

  • Grant Amount: Up to €1,800

    • €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp

    • €200 per kWp for the next 2 kWp (max. 4 kWp: €1,400 + €400 = €1,800)

  • Eligibility:

    • Home built and occupied on or before 31 Dec 2020, owned by the applicant, with no prior Solar PV grant at that MPRN

  • Zero 0% VAT applies when work is done under one invoice since May 2023

  • Application must be approved before installation — grant approval is valid for 8 months

Grant Structure & Eligibility

  • System size: 6 kWp to 1,000 kWp

  • Grant rates:

    • 1 kWp = €900; 2 kWp = €1,800; 3 kWp = €2,100; 4–6 kWp = €2,400

    • 7–20 kWp: €300/kWp

    • 21–200 kWp: €200/kWp

    • 201–1,000 kWp: €150/kWp

  • Max grant: Up to €162,600

  • Open to businesses, schools, farms, community centres, and nonprofits

Application Steps

  1. Engage a Registered Non-Domestic Microgen installer

  2. Apply online; wait for letter of offer (grant approval)

  3. Submit NC7 form to ESB before installation

  4. Install system and submit evidence of works via installer

Powering Irish Farms and Rural Enterprises with Solar Energy

TAMS 3 – Solar Capital Investment Scheme

Farmers can now access generous grant aid under the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS 3) — specifically through the Solar Capital Investment Scheme, part of the Department of Agriculture’s initiative to promote on-farm energy sustainability.

Grant Details:

  • Grant support of up to 60% of eligible costs

  • Available for solar PV systems up to 62kWp

  • Includes panels, mounting systems, wiring, inverters, isolation devices, and meters

  • Systems can include battery storage, depending on application type

  • Applicable to both rooftop and ground-mounted systems

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a registered farmer with a valid herd number

  • Applicant must have submitted a Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) application in the same year

  • System must be installed for on-farm energy usage — not primarily for export

  • Funding is intended to reduce reliance on grid electricity, especially for:

    • Milking parlours and cooling systems

    • Lighting and ventilation in livestock sheds

    • Irrigation, feeding, and machinery power
